This year the Sacramento County Fair is memorial day weekend May 25-29th 2017 at Cal Expo in Sacramento, California. This year the theme is "Let's Eat, Have Fun & Celebrate the Red, White & Blue".
The Sacramento county fair first opened in 1937 in Galt, California . Later the fair moved locations a couple times before it ended up at Cal Expo in Sacramento. In the beginning the fair was an event for livestock and indoor Junior exhibits. In 1988 the Sacramento County fair decided to change to be an event with paid admission, Carnival rides, food and entertainment. The Sacramento County fair is a educational family fun event. At no charge, school groups are offered educational programs to experience hands on learning in agricultural stations (application deadline 5/18). In addition to field trips, the Sacramento County fair offers several competition exhibits for children and adults to enter with the opportunity to be awarded ribbons and prizes. Some of the categories range from livestock to still exhibits (photography, garden wheelbarrels, food eating contest, etc). In the past I have entered under the adult Photography category (2013-2015, I was awarded 1st-3rd place in the adult photography catagory). It was a great honor to have been a participant.
Next Wednesday (May 24th) I have been given a special opportunity to join the media in a special media only night. I will have private access to some of the features the Sacramento County fair offers before it is open to the public. I will share my adventure for you to follow on my social media channels. Getting to the Sacramento County Fair at Cal Expo
Our physical address is 1600 Exposition Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95815. Vehicle entry through Gate D at Exposition Blvd and Challenge Way. Gate admission is located at the entrance to the Cal Expo Rodeo Arena.
